STATEMENTS OF SIGNIFICANCE

Hugh McLean’s experience as Heritage Planner at the City of Vancouver includes the review and editing of several hundred Statements of Significance (SoS) for submission to the Province of BC and registering on the Canadian Register of Historic Places.  A well-researched and written SoS forms the basis for understanding the values and character-defining elements.  This is the starting point for best practices for treatment of those elements, both long-term and shorter-term (see Conservation Plans).  Statements of Significance can be done for not only buildings, but also structures, cultural landscapes and monuments.
